With only ten days remaining before the statutorily-mandated expiration date of the Section 1603 Treasury Program, Congress has departed Washington without extending the grant program. Center PV Taskforce Release Racking Criteria for Rooftop Solar
The Center PV Taskforce today released a draft copy of PV Racking Criteria for Effective Rooftop Solar Integration. The document is the product of more than three months of work by the taskforce whose members include key representatives from the commercial roofing industry. The draft document contains seven distinct categories of racking criteria, examples and recommended action items for the installation of rooftop solar racking systems. The Center Launches New PV Racking Task Force

Senator Ben Cardin Announces the Energy-Efficiency Cool Roof Jobs Act
Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) today unveiled the Energy-Efficient Cool Roof Jobs Act during a visit to Kalkreuth Roofing located in Frederick, Maryland. The bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) aims to create 40,000 jobs in the still struggling construction sector and improve the energy performance of commercial buildings by removing obstacles in the tax code that impede economic growth. Center Receives $750,000 Grant for RoofPoint™, High Performance Guideline System,
from the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress
The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing (Center) was awarded a grant from the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress (Alliance) in the amount of $750,000 for the development of RoofPoint, a new guideline and rating system for the selection of roof systems to mazimize energy efficiency and minmize enervironmental impact. This grant will provide the Center critical resources to expand the development and public launche of RoofPoint. Center Unveils RoofPoint™ - Landmark Roof Rating System
RoofPoint is the first comprehensive roof rating system for the assessment and selection of sustainable roof systems. Organized around five primary categories: energy management, materials management, water management, durability/life-cycle management, and innovation, RoofPoint provides a comprehensive roadmap for achieving sustainable low-slope roofing systems. As a first step to introduce RoofPoint to the marketplace and promote industry discussion, the Center is sponsoring an industry-wide public comment process covering the key elements and strategies of RoofPoint. The Center plans to complete the first phrase of industry comment by June, 2010, followed by an amended draft and a second round of industry comment by August, 2010. The Center pushes Energy Efficient Tax Credit for Roofs
The past month, the Center has been working to ensure tax credits for energy efficient roofing are included in new energy legislation Congress is considering. The Center is proposing a 30% investment tax credit for those roofs that achieve a prescribed level of thermal performance. The idea is to put energy efficiency on a level playing field with renewable energy, which currently enjoys a 30% investment tax credit.

The Center Issues a White Paper about the Benefits of Rooftop Photo-Voltaic
The Center issued a white paper, “Successful Rooftop Photo-voltaic: How to Achieve a High-Quality, Well-Maintained, Compatible Rooftop PV System,” to help consumers understand the basics of installing a photo-voltaic rooftop. The white paper discusses the benefits and challenges of installing photovoltaic rooftops.
